Forskning i Bayer HealthCare

I 2009 ble 2 1 mio euro, tilsvarende 68 prosent av Bayer-konsernets forsknings- og utviklingsbudsjett, brukt innen HealthCare-delkonsernet. Med denne investeringen danner virksomheten grunnlag for at divisjonene Consumer Care, Medical Care, Animal Health og Bayer Pharmaceuticals. kan introdusere enda flere innovative produkter i det voksende helsemarkedet.

Forskningen i Bayer Schering Pharmaceuticals i Tyskland er konsentrert rundt bl.a. hematologi/kardiologi, onkologi, hormonbehandling hos praktiserende leger og bildediagnostikk. Hovedvekten ligger på områder med et høyt terapibehov, der nye behandlingsformer er særlig viktige.

Eksempler på nye aktive ingredienser fra den farmasøytiske forskningen:

I Diabetes Care-divisjonen fokuserer forskningen på å styrke hovedproduktene og ekspansjon innen hurtigvoksende og lønnsomme markedssegmenter. Disse segmentene målrettes med brukervennlige apparater til måling av blodsukkeret, som dekker de individuelle behovene hos personer med diabetes. Divisjonen undersøker også teknologi som gjør det mulig med kontinuerlig blodglukosekontroll, og – på lengre sikt – muligheter for å fjerne behovet for blodprøver helt. I denne sammenheng er en lisensavtale med Sontra Medical Corporation blitt utvidet. Virksomhetens ultralydbaserte SonoPrep®-teknologi øker muligheten for å skanne gjennom huden.

Forskning i Animal Health-divisjonen er målrettet antibiotika, midler mot parasitter og produkter til behandling av ikke-smitsomme sykdommer som nyresvikt og kongestive hjertelidelser.
